Sports Injuries

Sports injuries occur in all age groups but mainly in young adults. These range from a simple sprain to more severe injuries such as broken bones, damaged ligaments, fractures, and joint injuries.

It is important to make an accurate diagnosis and plan recovery with a period of rest suited to each condition. Sometimes surgery is needed, followed by rehabilitation. If not it can lead to chronicity and affect quality of life; some may even have to give up sport.

Correct timing and duration of treatment will help return to normal activity, work, and eventually to sport. The ultimate aim of treatment is to enable return to sport as soon as possible.

Correct orthopaedic diagnosis is crucial, with management planned and executed by a team consisting of orthopaedic surgeon, physiotherapist, and other support staff.
