Dr. Hiran Amarasekera completed his primary and secondary education at Royal College, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He began initial medical undergraduate training at the North Colombo Medical College, Sri Lanka and thereafter completed training and obtained his MBBS degree at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, South India.
He trained for and obtained the MS (Master of Surgery) postgraduate specialization degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), University of Colombo. He then elected to specialize in Trauma and Orthopaedics. For this, he trained initially in Sri Lanka and then in the United Kingdom and Australia. He was board certified as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon by the PGIM in 2003.
His research has mainly centred on young adult hip problems, and bone and joint pain management.
He completed a research degree from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 6 months and was awarded a travelling fellowship to the University of Los Angeles California (UCLA) for 6 months.
He has worked in the United Kingdom, Australia, USA, India and Sri Lanka, and has many presentations, publications including book chapters, and book editorships to his credit. Currently, he is practicing as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
