Dr. Hiran Amarasekera completed his primary and secondary education at Royal College Colombo. He obtained his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College (affiliated to Mangalore University), Manipal, India. Upon returning to Sri Lanka he obtained MS (Master of Surgery) from the Postgraduate institute of Medicine, (PGIM), University of Colombo. Later he opted to specialize in trauma and orthopaedics, for which he trained initially in Sri Lanka and then in the United Kingdom and Australia. 

He is a board-certified Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon. Dr. Amarasekera has a special interest in dealing with young adult hip problems and bone and joint pain management. He has worked in the United Kingdom, Australia, USA, India and Sri Lanka. He is currently practicing as a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has many presentations, publications including book chapters, and book editorships to his credit.
